Logo & visual identity for HEC Tech Club

HEC Paris is one of the top business schools in Europe. It has a dual degree program with Yale and exchange programs with Wharton, Tuck, Stern, and more.

HEC Tech Club requested a logo that reflected its values of innovation and connection. It needed to attract to companies who recruit from HEC Tech Club, including but not limited to Google, Facebook, Palantir, LMVH, Uber, Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, Cisco, and Volkswagen. The symbol would be used on decks, recruitment presentations, t-shirts, banners, and signage.

The logo is a combination of three squares which represent the idea of a bit, or a segment of data. When amassed, each bit contributes to the whole, becoming greater than the sum of its parts.

The rectangles within the squares create the letters HEC through their negative space, a modern and chic geometrical typography. This aesthetic alludes to the elite and global tech companies that recruit from HEC Tech Club.

The three colors are a variation of the HEC blue. The diversity of the blue accounts for the diversity of sectors within the tech industry, as well as the diversity of the people within the industry. Blue is also a color that inspires trust and reliability, which reflects the high quality, competence, and integrity of students that graduate from HEC.

The gradation of the blues speak to technology’s ability to transform society as a whole, bringing it from a metaphorical darkness to light. Information is power, and technology is key in harnessing the power of a company and of a society. The logo also aligns with HEC’s motto, apprendre à oser, or learn to dare.

The font is Gill Sans, a classic European font used for signage and data sets due to its legibility. The lowercase orthography of tech club compliments the upper case silhouttes of the letters HEC.

The logo is recognizable and comprehensible at large and small sizes.
